Ash Wednesday!

"Turn away from sin, and be faithful to the Gospel."

Lord Jesus- be with us this Lent, open our eyes, hearts, and minds to the Gospel. Teach us to Put Out into the Deep this Lenten season.

We begin Lent this year with ashes, a distinct sign to the world that our lives stem from the Cross, contrite hearts, and a longing for God.

Our first reading this season is from 1 Corinthians: Chapter 1:

Do Not Be Afraid! v. 8+9: "He will keep you strong to the end, so that you will be blameless on the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. God, who has called you into fellowship with his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, is faithful."

Questions, Team?

I will destroy the wisdom of the wise...great. Does this mean that God is laughing at how 'inteligent' we say we are? actually, i guess he is write. 200 years ago they thought they were smart but we see them as low tech with their bad WWI battle plans and lack of medicine... kinda demoralizing knowing that we know nothing even though we try to know everything...

btw, Cephas is Peter...right?

It's interesting to think of God destroying wisdom.. since so many people come to know God through wisdom/philosophy/reason. As Pope John Paul II said, "Faith and Reason are linked and seek each other." God could never destroy true wisdom, only the worldy "wisdom" that seeks itself, and not truth.

Correct, Cephas = Peter!
